Several years ago, on a whim, I decided to take a drive through the
Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles. I can
see it from where I work, and was curious to see what kind of artwork
they had there, since I remembered a few statues from their Glendale
cemetery when I visited several years earlier. While in the Los Angeles
one, I remembered about Penn & Teller's cenotaph mentioned in a book of
theirs I had read a while back, and decided to try to find it. I
remembered the general area where it was located from the book's
description, but failed to find it on that trip. Instead, I
accidentally stumbled upon Stan Laurel's, Bob Kane's and Buster
Keaton's graves. I was hooked, and was soon spending time in
cemeteries throughout the Los Angeles area, looking for the final
resting places of all the famous people I could find. The pictures I
took are collected here. My definition of "famous" can be a little
loose sometimes, though, including a few Civil War veterans, murder
victims and others who weren't really all that famous. Most people
listed here were involved in the movie industry in some way, such as
directors, producers, actors, actresses, screen writers,
cinematographers, etc. There are also a number of singers, musicians,
models, inventors, politicians and novelists. I still have several
pictures I need to add here, like John Ritter's marked grave, several
Earp's (Wyatt and his family), etc. This may take me a while, as I am
very far behind on editing my backlog of pictures from the past year.
