Welcome to my Pioneer Graves Project site. This is a collection of photos I've taken over the years in the old, sometimes neglected cemeteries of the Western U.S. mining towns. Most are from the gold towns in California along Highway 49, but there are also many from the deserts, Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, and a few other states. El Dorado Cemetery Driving up Highway 49 through El Dorado, I saw a small road on my left called Cemetery Road. Naturally, I investigated, and found this cemetery, which is much larger than most I visit around this part of the state. There is a sign at the entrance that proclaims it a "cemetary." Spelling isn't always the strong point in places like this. I once found a Cemetary Lane in Jackson, too. As the Amador County seat, I would have expected them to be more careful about that one. At least the sign for Cemetery Road here in El Dorado was spelled correctly. 179 files, last one added on Dec 06, 2008
