Boffa,_Angelo.jpgAngelo BoffaEpitaph:
Rest, brother, rest in quiet sleep
While friends in sorrow o'er thee weep.
The Mountain Democrat
Jan. 16, 1892
Angelo Beffa, who died in San Francisco on Wednesday last, was an old resident of California. In early days he engaged in business at Forest Hill, Placer county, where he remained for many years. He afterwards went to San Francisco, and not succeeding to his satisfaction there, he came to Placerville and engaged in business, where he resided up to the time of his death. A few weeks ago he had an attack of lagrippe, from which he never recovered. On Friday of last week he appeared to feel better and went to San Francisco, where he died, as above stated, at the advanced age of 72 years. He had been in poor health for a long time, was a quiet citizen, popular with all who knew him, and strictly honest in all his dealings with his fellow men. The remains were brought to this city on Thursday and were interred in Union Cemetery, under the auspices of Palmyra Lodge, No. 151, F. & A. M., the funeral from the undertaking rooms of Morris & Kelley. Deceased leaves one sister, Mrs. Rolleri, and two nieces, of the city, and a nephew, George Rolleri, of Sacramento.

Carroll,_Henry_A.jpgHenry A. CarrollThe Mountain Democrat – August 28, 1909
Sudden Death of HAA. Carroll
Early Wednesday morning the community were shocked and saddened by the announcement of the sudden death near Caldor of Henry Carroll, who was well-known to almost every one in the county. He had gone to Caldor on business a couple of days before, and on the morning mentioned, had arisen early, and in company with a friend from San Franciso, Mr. Forman, started to walk to one of the logging camps. They had proceeded about two miles when Mr. Carroll suddenly dropped to the ground, and expired almost instantly. In fact his death came so quickly and quietly that Mr. Forman said there was not the slightest quiver of an eyelid, or twitching of a muscle. Help was summoned and the remains were brought down to Diamond and arrived here on the evening train.
Mr. Carroll was 58 years of age, a native of London, England, where a brother and sister still reside. He had been in Placerville for twenty years, engaged in the insurance and brokerage business and practically all of that time has had his office in the store of Shelley Inch; their social and business relations during that time have been so close that Mr. Carroll’s death comes as a personal loss to Mr. Inch and his family. Many friends will long remember him as a genial, educated gentleman with a big sympathetic heart for all in trouble or distress.
In compliance with a message from his relatives in England to Mr. Inch to “act as a brother” – a relationship which has long existed between them – the body will rest here. Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Inch home on Depot Heights, Rev. E.J. Bradner, pastor of the M.E. Church officiating.thomascanty

Last Sad Rites
Peter Cleese, an elder brother of our well-known fellow citizen, John P. Cleese, died at San Francisco last Sunday. Having no family and no other relative in the State, his remains were brought to this city for interment. From the noon train last Wednesday, the funeral procession proceeded to Union cemetery where religious services were conducted by Rev. C.C. Peirce with music by Miss Dell Alderson, Miss Susie Stewart, Prof. Bland and A. Fox. The brother whose sad duty it was, in the absence of other kindred, to be at his death-bed and to direct his burial, tenders to sympathizing friends and musicians, sincerest thanks.
